The All-Parliamentary Group on eating disorders has released a new report which highlights the need for improvement across eating disorder services in the UK.
The report - which was released on January 22 - made a number of recommendations, including increased funding for eating disorder services.
An All-Party Parliamentary Group is a group of MPs and Members of the House of Lords from different political parties who have an interest in the same topic - in this case, eating disorders.
Tom Quinn, Beat's Director of External Affairs, said
‘We welcome the release of the All-Parliamentary Group’s report on eating disorder services. At least 1.25 million people in the UK are affected by these complex and dangerous mental illnesses, and there is an urgent need to improve quality of care for those people. We need to bring an end to the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders.
‘We often hear from those who contact our Helpline that it can be incredibly challenging to access help, which can be devastating for those who are unwell and their families. We support the report’s recommendations, such as the urgent need for additional funding for eating disorder services and increased research on these illnesses.
‘Eating disorders need more attention and to be prioritised by the Government and NHS leaders, and we very much hope the release of this report helps to further that aim. Recovery is always possible for those with eating disorders, especially in cases where there has been early intervention and consistent care throughout. We urge policymakers to take heed of this report.'
