"I had a moment of sheer elation!" Three Peaks with Beat

Will you join us for the Three Peaks Challenge next year? Take part in this epic and prestigious challenge to ensure that Beat are there to help more families face eating disorders together.

Sarah took to the challenge with a friend this year in memory of her sister who sadly passed away from an eating disorder – you can read about her experience below.

What motivated you to take part in Three Peaks Challenge for Beat this year?

This year marked 10 years since I lost my beautiful sister to anorexia and bulimia. I really wanted to do a challenge in her memory that would push me to my limits and would help raise vital funds for Beat. After undertaking some research, I decided the National Three Peaks would be a fitting challenge as I love walking, beautiful countryside and a new adventure.

What did you enjoy the most about doing the Three Peaks Challenge for Beat?

The Three Peaks Challenge was by no means easy, it did push me to my limits but the sense of achievement at the end was amazing. I’m delighted that I’ve been able to raise funds for Beat that could help with future research into eating disorders as well as help for sufferers and support for their families.

What mountain was your favourite and why?

Scaffel Pike. I climbed this mountain in the evening as the sun was setting and it just looked beautiful.

How did you find your fundraising and how did Beat help?

I really enjoyed fundraising for Beat. I set up a Just Giving page where I received lots of generous donations as well as organising a summer drinks party and raffle to support my fundraising. Beat sent me promotional materials that I was able to use at the event which helped raise awareness of the fantastic work Beat does.

Any advice to others considering the challenge?

The terrain of the mountains was much rockier than I’d anticipated. Although I had done lots of hill walk training (normally one or two a week for a few months) I hadn’t done any mountains or scrambles so a few of these would have been really useful.

What was your personal highlight during the challenge?

Completing Snowdon, the final mountain. I had a moment of sheer elation!

Are you able to sum up your experience in three words?

Challenging, exhilarating, rewarding.

If you are feeling inspired by Sarah's story, why not take part in our Three Peaks Challenge next year?
