Nexus

What is Nexus?

Nexus offers support for caregivers who are supporting a loved one that is experiencing Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder or OSFED (Other Specified Feeding and Eating Disorder).  Loved ones do not need a formal diagnosis.

Through Nexus, you will be able to connect each week with a trained Programme Officer, who will provide you with a place to talk through what you are going through and empower you to help your loved one towards positive change.

The programme is based on Professor Janet Treasure’s book Skills-based Learning for Caring for a Loved One with an Eating Disorder: The New Maudsley Method.

We will post a free copy of the book to you so you can refer to it as you put the skills you are learning into practice.

What does Nexus involve?

Nexus is a coaching service. The aim isn’t to tell you what you should be doing, but for you and your assigned Programme Officer to develop a safe, confidential and supportive space where your Officer will act as a sounding board, guiding you to find your own solutions as well as offering practical techniques to help motivate positive change in your loved one.

How does it work?

Once you’ve signed up, you will have an initial support session with your Programme Officer so they can gain an understanding of your situation. During each session, your Officer will discuss with you any goals you’d like to set, whether that’s trying a particular communication skill with your loved one or finding half an hour for some important self-care.

Who is Nexus open to?

Nexus can offer support for caregivers who are supporting a loved one that is experiencing Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder or OSFED (Other Specified Feeding and Eating Disorder).  Loved ones do not need a formal diagnosis.

How much time is involved?

After your first session, you’ll speak to your Programme Officer on video call at the same time each week. The total length of the programme is 12 weeks. You’ll need to be available for a 50-minute session in the first week, then a 40-minute session each week.

What if I can’t make one of my Nexus sessions?

Your assigned Programme Officer will provide you with a support schedule detailing your arranged calls throughout the duration of the programme. Should any circumstance arise that prevents you from attending a scheduled session, it will be noted as a missed appointment.
