My daughter became unwell in her teens with what we now know was OSFED: Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder. We struggled for 18 months to get the right help for my daughter which was very frustrating and traumatic for all involved.
To get her the help she needed, we went to several healthcare professionals: doctors, dieticians, paediatricians and counselling services – all of whom said she was maintaining her (extremely low) weight, and as an OSFED sufferer, didn’t tick the boxes for the most common eating disorders.
Once we did get the correct help with outpatient therapy from a specialist eating disorder team, she improved within 8 months – much to everyone’s relief.
